Our Technician Staff

Serena Gardner, BS, LVTi20-serena-image

Serena Gardner has been working with Dr. Langerhans since 2007 at VCA Fort Worth Animal Medical Center. When he started I-20 Animal Hospital in September 2010 Serena followed Dr. Langerhans and has been here since the beginning. Serena attended the University of Wisconsin and earned her Bachelors of Science. She was also concurrently enrolled in Madison Area Technical College where she obtained an Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology.

She is amazing with our feline patients and has 3 cats of her own, Swivel, Foos, and Squeak. Serena is an avid kite boarder and loves spending time riding her sports bike and doing home remodeling projects.

Nita Farris, LVTnita

Nita Farris joined I-20 Animal Hospital in May 2015. Nita attended Cedar Valley College and received her Associates Degree in 1982.

Nita was born and raised in the Fort Worth area. She has 2 beloved dogs, Della Louise and Bowser J. Bowser, a miniature horse named Stealth and a menagerie of cats. When she is not tending to her farm of animals, she has her own salsa making business which keeps her very busy. She also enjoys car shows, music, and dancing. Nita is an avid animal rescuer and helps the local shelters when she can. We are glad to have her as part of our team.

Josh Hopkinsjosh

Josh is originally from San Diego, CA but has been living in Texas for many years. He has 20 + years of experience in Emergency Critical and Specialty care. Josh joined I-20 Animal Hospital in July 2014. With his phenomenal amount of knowledge that he has worked so diligently to obtain over the years, he has been a great addition to our hospital staff and tends to be our fellow technicians go-to guy with questions. Josh has 5 dogs and 2 cats of his own and enjoys spending time with his wife Kim.

Kim Hopkinskim

Kim joined I-20 Animal Hospital July 2014 and has many years of experience in critical and emergency care medicine. She is a very hard worker and her compassion really shows in every task that she completes. Kim, with all of her devotion for what she does, seems to allow her to gain the most utmost respect and trust in the patients and clients under her care.

Kim is originally from Columbus, Ohio and is married to Josh and together they have 5 dogs and 2 cats. Kim enjoys watching movies, cooking, and reading books.

Rachell Smith, LVTrachells

Rachell joined I-20 Animal Hospital August 2014 and has several years of experience in animal medicine. She is incredibly intelligent and has inconceivable passion for each and every animal that walks through the door. Rachell graduated with an Associate's Degree in Applied Science from Penn Foster Veterinary Technology program in April 2016 earning her LVT.

Rachell is married to Andrew who is a police officer for the City of Fort Worth. Together they have 6 dogs named, Bailey, Ruebic, Roxie, Deuce, Fiona and Cooper. She also has 9 chickens, a rabbit named Hunny Bunny and 2 rats. Rachell enjoys biking, hiking, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.

Beth joined our hospital staff in April 2014. Prior to joining our clinic, Beth gained a number of years of experience working at other clinical, surgical, and laboratory environments. She attended Cedar Valley College and got her Associate's Degree in applied science in Veterinary Technology in 2011. She is married to the love of her life, Lenny, and they have a son, Cantyn. Beth also has 2 dogs and 1 cat. There is Maple, a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, and Jelly, the new kid who is a Shepherd mix. Beans is the cat of the household and rules the roost. Beth really enjoys spending time at the beach and the lake.

Susan Brownsusan-brown

Susan Brown joined I-20 Animal Hospital in March of 2015 and brings 27 years of technical experience with her. Susan is originally from California but moved to Texas in 1990.

Susan has 2 German shepherds named Ruger and Uzi, and a little mix breed named The Scruffanator. Her dogs are her life. Susan enjoys riding her motorcycle and helping children in need during her spare time and is a member of Bikers Against Child Abuse. She also enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and gardening.

Vanessa Adkins, LVTi20-vanessa-adkins

Vanessa Adkins graduated with her Associates degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Cedar Valley College in 2006. She is a Licensed Veterinary Technician with 10 years of experience. We were thrilled to add her to our clinic team in June 2016. The knowledge she has gained over the years accompanied with her passion for the profession makes her a great asset to the team. Vanessa's husband is an Arlington police officer. Together they have 3 children named Caleb, Junior, and Addie. She has a house full with 2 great danes, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 1 turtle, and a number of pet frogs of which the number changes based on how many the kids catch and release that day. She enjoys horseback riding and has a horse, Mikey, who is in the Arlington PD mounted unit.

Jennifer Gravesi20-vanessa-adkins

Jennifer Graves joined our staff as a veterinary technician in July 2016. She is originally from California but for the last 10 years she has been moving around with her husband who is in the pipeline business. In that time period she has lived in a total of 33 states. Jennifer has been a technician for 11 years off and on. Her history of moving around has allowed her to work in a variety of different clinics and gain a lot of hands on experience and allow her to be very versatile. She lives at home with 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 birds, and a fish named Steve.

Jennifer Abbott

Jennifer is originally from Colorado and moved to Texas 10 years ago. Jennifer joined I-20 Animal Hospital December 25, 2015. Jennifer spent 17 years in equine medicine and changed to small animal medicine several years ago. She is a certified equine massage therapist. She competes in barrel racing, training horses, and riding her horses in her spare time.

She also has 1 cat named Astro and 2 dogs, Reba and Sammi.

Courtney Dubuis

Courtney arrived at I-20 Animal Hospital in March, 2017. She is a graduate of Tarleton State University (2015) with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. Courtney is also lab certified in Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA).

Courtney’s prior years of experience involved large animals, but when she joined our team at I-20 Animal Hospital, she fell in love with emergency and critical care in small animals.

Courtney’s passion is horses. She has ridden horses since she was eleven years old and has been an avid competitor in eventing and jumping for most of her life. Courtney has three horses; two (2) Off the track thoroughbreds (OTTB’s) named Auda and Shorty and 1 Hanoverian named Tigger. She is also the proud “dog momma” to a fox red Labrador named Levi and a rescue Shepherd named Hopper. In Courtney’s spare time, she loves to do furniture restoration, shooting shot guns, research and spending time with her supportive family.

Anthony Hershey

Anthony joined our I-20 Animal Hospital in April 2017. Anthony grew up in Elsa, Texas. He attended the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School, and has four years of experience working with emergency and critical care animals.

Anthony has four dogs; an English Bulldog, a French Bulldog, and two Great Danes. Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, Anthony has been around and loved animals all his life. Anthony also enjoys volleyball and workouts.

Anthony now attends the University of North Texas.
